New Year, New You In 2022: Taking Care Of Your Sleep

As you reflect on 2021 and contemplate your hopes for the new year, your list of resolutions may look something like this:

While breathing properly doesn’t seem like something you should have to commit to, it is if you suffer from sleep apnea. You can get your best start and your best sleep in the new year by making your health a priority. Taking control of your sleep apnea can be the first step.

Selecting a High-Quality CPAP Machine

Nightly use of a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine is one of the most commonly used methods for treating sleep apnea. These devices use a mask to keep your airway open by sending a consistent flow of oxygen to your nose and mouth. This enables you to breathe normally and improves your ability to sleep soundly.

Finding the right CPAP device that works for you can require a little time, patience and research. Here are two key questions to ask yourself as you begin your search:

1. What Type of Face Mask Do I Need?

Masks come in a variety of sizes and styles. The best CPAP mask for you will depend on the size and shape of your face, the nature of your sleep apnea disorder and certain lifestyle habits.

Two different types of masks are full masks and nasal pillow masks. Full masks provide a stable fit and are preferable for people who tend to breathe through their mouths as they sleep. One downside is that they can trigger feelings of claustrophobia.

Nasal pillow masks can solve this problem because they fit right into your nose and cover less of your face. These work well for someone who wears glasses to read at night while the mask is on. They are not the best choice, though, for anyone who moves around a lot while they sleep.

When choosing a CPAP face mask, you want to make sure it fits well and is comfortable.

2. When and Where Will I Be Using My CPAP?

Most people will use their CPAP predominantly in the same setting each night—in their bedroom at home. If you are a frequent business traveler, however, you will need to tote your machine with you on planes and to hotels. In this case, a compact device may be just what you need.

Portable models, like the Resmed Air Mini, are designed to fit neatly into your carry-on to accompany you on all of your globetrotting adventures. You can easily manage your sleep regardless of your location using convenient features like waterless humidification and the Air Mini app.

Getting a good night’s sleep anywhere in the world is definitely a New Year’s resolution to get on board with!

Going Into the New Year Strong

Your sleep apnea does not have to prevent you from achieving your goals in the new year. Rely on a trusted medical equipment provider to help you find the right CPAP device. Cheers to a well-rested you in 2022!
