6 Simple Rules for a Healthy Life

In the world of health and nutrition, it seems like the rules change at the speed of light. But here’s the thing: they don’t. Not really.

Healthy Life

It is true that we are still learning a lot about what our bodies need in terms of exercise and healthy living. This is what causes most of the confusion. But there are basic and steadfast rules that will never change.

Follow these six simple rules, and you’ll be on your way to living your healthiest life.

1.  Be Present In Each Moment

If you want to reduce stress, get better at regulating emotions, and improve interpersonal skills, then you should meditate. At least, that’s what the research tells us. But you don’t have to be a meditation guru to see the benefits of mindfulness. Start by living in the present moment. This falls into the category of easier-said-than-done, but there are a few tips that can help.

Notice your thoughts – we have a tendency to get lost in our thoughts, which takes us on a journey through the past or into the future. Instead, notice your thoughts and actively bring yourself back to the present moment.

Put the phone down – When you’re looking at your smartphone or tablet, you’re not being mindful (unless you’re using one of many mindfulness apps). Technology addiction is a real thing, and it’s too easy to get swept up in the fever of checking updates and posting pictures.

2.  Make Health Easy

Although we can’t change all the frustrations in our lives, we can simplify some important things. For example, you make it easier to exercise by enlisting an exercise buddy. You’ll combine quality time with exercise, which could potentially make room in your schedule for something else. Here are some other simple ideas:

Prepare your workout clothes the night before – Laying out your workout clothes at night can save precious time and help set your intention for the next day.

Always pack healthy snacks – The most dangerous time for snacking is whenever you’re hungry. If your stomach is grumbling and you don’t have anything on-hand, it’s too easy to hit the vending machine. You can keep your snacks simple too. Try keeping packs of trail mix or healthy granola bars in your bag.

3.  Look on the Bright Side

Happiness is a choice. Sure, life can throw some curveballs, but it’s up to you how to handle them. Choose to be happy and look on the bright side, or dwell on the negativity of the situation. It’s really that simple. Think happy thoughts and you will start feeling better.

4.  Learn to Forgive

When people hold on to grudges, it’s usually because they don’t think the other person deserves forgiveness. But this isn’t about them. When you hold on to bad feelings towards someone, it weighs you down. Whenever you think of them, you’ll feel a heavy heart and a knot in your stomach. Let it go, and you’ll be the one who reaps the benefits.

5.  Get Outdoors Whenever You Can

We were made to bask in the fresh air and sunshine. Unfortunately, though, most of us have jobs that keep us indoors. If possible, go for a walk at lunchtime or after work. Spend as much time exercising outdoors as you can.

6.  Get Some Good Rest

Don’t underestimate the power of good quality sleep. It can improve your health in ways that may surprise you (e.g., avoiding heart disease and obesity). Not to mention what a good night’s rest will do for those dark circles!

It can be easy to live a healthy life when you follow these simple tips.
