Sheira and Loli’s Dittydoodle Works Review
We’re big fans of all the children’s programming on PBS, but had never heard of Sheira and Loli’s Dittydoodle Works until Mom Fuse introduced us to it. I did a little investigating, and found that my local PBS channel only broadcasts the show in the wee hours of the morning. I’ve since set my DVR, though, so we don’t miss an episode!
So what is this show about, you ask? Sheira and Loli’s Dittydoodle Works is a live-action TV series made for preschoolers. The main theme of the show revolves around rag doll twins Sheira and Loli, and their friends, teaching children important life lessons through song – “Lessons in the Lyrics” is what they call it. The lessons focus on everything from sharing to listening and dealing with your emotions. All issues that preschool-age kids struggle with!
I know just from what I’ve experienced with my 4-year old that when something is taught through song, it’s likelier to get through. From the ABC’s to counting, to cleaning up, it’s all much more fun when it’s put to music! Just recently, program clips and music segments of the series have become available on KOL Jr., AOL’s online destination for children ages 2-5. KOL Jr. is also offering Dittydoodle Works coloring pages.
To make it easier for parents to reinforce the lessons learned in the series, a music-based learning system called Lessons in the Lyrics System (L.I.T.L.S.) was also developed. It includes episodes of the series on DVD, a CD of the show’s most popular songs, a corresponding activity book, and several certificates of achievement. We were provided with a system to review, and thoroughly enjoyed using it. Some of the activities in the book were for older kids that can write, but otherwise we completed it all. I’d say that’s my only complaint – I wish it were longer or printed on both sides!
Not sold in stores, this set is exclusively available via a 60-second infomercial now appearing on the best-watched TV networks for kids, including PBS KIDS, Discovery Kids, Qubo Channel and Nickelodeon, as well as online at www.smartmusic4kids.com, at a cost of $24.95.
