The Review

My daughter is at the age where she is beginning to be very aware of what she likes and dislikes and has a very strong opinion about it. This is very obvious when it comes to a lot of health-related issues, such as doctor visits, taking medicine, treating minor injuries and especially taking her temperature! The minute she sees me take the thermometer out of the medicine cabinet, her fear usually gets the best of her. I have been unable to get an accurate temperature reading since she was about one and I started taking her temperature orally.

At her most recent doctors visit, for strep throat, even the professionals could not get her to cooperate to take her temperature. They actually could not get her to cooperate for anything! I saw the trouble they were having and how uncomfortable she was and I couldn’t help but cry. I knew that it was my responsibility to make her understand that certain things are necessary, whether she liked it or not. Let’s just say, this didn’t go over well!

The next day I received The Temporal Scanner, and it seriously couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. With the memory of the doctors visit still fresh in her mind, of course she was surprised and frightened when she saw me pull the Temporal Scanner out of the box. I let her hold it for a while, then I explained to her that I would be taking her temperature. This again, didn’t go over well! So I showed her how to use the scanner on myself and she actually found it amusing! Finally after about 15 minutes and a bribe of a promised lollipop, she let me take her temperature! For the first time in over a year, there were no tears and I didn’t even have to use force!

The Temporal Scanner was extremely easy to use, with a quick swipe of her forehead, I had an accurate reading in less that three seconds. To check for accuracy, I tried it a couple of times, both on my daughter and on myself. The results were consistent, her reading showed 99.4 and mine showed 98.6 every time I used it.

The reason the Temporal Scanner is so accurate is because it reads the temperature from the temporal artery, which is very close to the surface of the skin and also a very short distance from the heart, which allows a steady flow of blood, resulting in accurate, up-to-date results. Within the three seconds or so that it takes to scan the device across a child’s head, the probe is actually getting over 100 different readings, each ending in an accurate final result. When the Temporal Scanner was compared to the results of a standard ear probe that most doctors use, it showed a much more similar result of  a rectal thermometer.

Not only does the Temporal Scanner give an accurate reading, but it is much less invasive than rectal or ear drum thermometers. It’s acually so gentle that you can scan your child’s head while they sleep, leaving them undisturbed.

The Temporal Scanner would be the perfect gift for any new parent. You can find it at your local Walgreens, Babies R Us, Toys R Us, Walmart or online at You can also download a $5.00 mail-in rebate offer HERE.

Product Facts

A major reason ear thermometers are considered inaccurate by medical professionals is because the positioning of the probe in the ear canal is inconsistent, thus creating inconsistent readings and frequently missing fevers. The temporal artery thermometer scans the forehead area for the temporal artery and it is almost impossible to miss the artery during a scan. Also, the person whose temperature is being taken does not like something inserted in their ear, making good positioning even more difficult. The gentle scan across the forehead is comfortable and not objectionable. The TemporalScanner has been proven more accurate than ear thermometers by a Harvard Medical School study.
