Review: Moms Special Marinara Pasta Sauce

Mom’s Special Marinara Pasta Sauce is a product of Fischer & Wieser, a family-owned company based in Fredericksburg, Texas that has a line of gourmet sauces, jellies, salsas, and dressings. We recently received a jar of Mom’s Special Marinara Pasta Sauce to try out. The end result was kind of split in the middle. My husband, who is pretty picky about his sauces thought it was just “ok”. I kinda liked it.. it’s not a chunky sauce and I liked that. It has a fresh taste to it and didn’t seem to over power the pasta which is another thing I liked. My husband wants more meat than pasta and sauce so I could understand why he wasn’t too fond of it. The kids seemed to enjoy it, they always eat spaghetti really well and this sauce made no difference to them, which in their case is a good thing because if they didn’t like it they would definitely tell you and would not eat it.

Although we just used it as a spaghetti sauce there are more uses for it.. my husband would sure go for this recipe below!

Mom’s Sausage and Pepper Hoagie

1 Pound Fresh Italian Sausage Links (sweet, mild, or hot)

1/2 Cup Water

1 Tbs. Extra Virgin Olive Oil

1 Medium Green Bell Pepper, cut into thin strips

1 Medium Red Bell Pepper, cut into thin strips

1 Large Onion, sliced

1/2 Tsp. Dried Oregano

1/2 Tbls. Chopped Fresh Basil

1 Cup Mom’s Special Marinara Pasta Sauce

4 Large Sandwich Rolls

Brown the sausages in a skillet, turning 2 or 3 times on medium heat, for 5-10 minutes. Add water and bring to a gentle simmer. Cover, reduce heat and continue simmering for 10 minutes. Drain sausages on a paper towel. When cooled sufficiently, slice 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. If no oil or liquid remains in skillet, add up to 1 tablespoon oil. Increase heat to medium-high and add bell peppers, onion, oregano and basil. Cook vegetables stirring frequently until crisp-tender, about 5 minutes. Return sausage to skillet and add the Mom’s Special Marinara Pasta Sauce, then heat through.

To serve, hollow out bottom side of rolls and place sausage, vegetable and sauce mixture in depression to fill. Finish with Parmesan Cheese and serve immediately. Serves 4.
