Leave Notes and Check In

Whether you’re leaving your kids with their grandparents or with a babysitter, leaving helpful notes for the caretaker will help put your mind at ease, especially if you have a baby or a toddler. The caretaker will know exactly what needs to be done to keep your child safe and happy while you’re gone, and you can rest assured that adequate instructions were left behind. Plus, you can always use your cell phone to check in at least once during your evening out so you can have the peace of mind of knowing that all is well.

Make Sure Your Kids Will Be Distracted and Happy

Your kids could have a fantastic night, too, if you plan it right. Have your babysitter order pizza for the kids and have other treats available for them to snack on. Let them play games, watch a movie, and do whatever it is that will make them happy and keep their minds occupied. For example, they can invite their friends or cousins over for some extra fun. This will ensure that, while you’re having fun with your friends, they’re also having fun with theirs. When you get home, you can share your experiences with each other and know that your kids were perfectly fine and content while you were away from home.

Plan a Special Day or Night with the Kids

To make up for your night away from your kids, you can plan another special day or night with them. For example, you may plan a movie night with them the following evening, or you may take them out for a brand new experience the following weekend. This will help you make up for the time that you weren’t with them, and it will eliminate the guilt of being away for a few hours.

Understand That Even Parents Need Time to Themselves

While you may be completely devoted to your beloved children every day and every night, it’s important to have a balance in your life that allows you to take care of yourself and your relationship with your spouse or your friends. Without this balance, you’ll miss out on happy experiences, and your relationships will also end up being neglected in the end. So tell yourself that taking a night off is perfectly fine, and highly recommended, and your kids will be waiting for you when you get home, when you can shower them with hugs and kisses.

By following the helpful tips above, you can have your great night out with friends or your husband, all without having to suffer through the guilt that a lot of mothers feel when they leave their kids behind at home.
