My Secret Circle, from Senario, is a secure social networking product (not a website) for tweens. Recommended for girls ages 8 to 12, My Secret Circle is a plug ‘n’ play product that allows tweens to hang out online, chat, share pictures and play games with their friends- all with mom’s approval.
The product comes in the form of a flash drive. To connect with friends, you plug the My Secret Circle USB flash drive into your computer, and can then generate a code request to add a friend to your ‘circle.’ Here’s how the codes work:
1) Users simply print off the access code (which folds into a “secret envelope”) and hand-deliver the code to a friend who also has My Secret Circle.
2) The friend then logs-on to her My Secret Circle page and types in the code, which sends a “friend request” back to the person who gave her the code.
3) The user must accept the friend request.
Once a code is used once, it can never be used again, which enhances the security. This is what makes it safer than other social networking sites like Facebook or Myspace. This approach eliminates the predatory aspect that can sometimes come with social networking sites.
There is even a special headset with a microphone you can purchase to talk with friends over the internet.. kind of like Skype.
“My Secret Circle is invisible to the online world and is not a Web site. By purchasing online access keys featuring proprietary technology with embedded browsers and unique ID codes, only friends can connect on My Secret Circle by exchanging private codes. Once a code is used to connect two friends, it is inactive and can never be used again. Since the codes are embedded in the product itself, girls never need to upload personal information online, further enhancing the security of the network.”
Other key features of My Secret Circle include All-About-Me profile pages with a Diva Designer avatar tool, an online journal that can be kept private or public for friends to read, instant messaging, games and an extensive photo feature allowing girls to upload photos, add text and décor and even create slideshows!
To me, this seems like a pretty cool way for tweens to chat with their friends, not to mention all the cool features that come along with it. I also like the fact that the tweens’ profile isn’t just out there on one of the big social networks where anyone can find them, it is completely safe. This should be a big hit!
My Secret Circle access keys can be purchased from Justice stores across the nation. You have the option between an individual pack or in a B.F.F. (best friend forever) pack with two online access keys to shared among friends or siblings.

Winner: JDS GuyJDS Guy says:
I love that a journal can be kept and it can be private or published. I also like that you can create an “About Me Page” with a unique afatar. I want to win because it is a secure networking product for 8-12 year olds and I know the perfect young gal who’d just love it if I were to win and give it to her. (Don’t tell her, but I like it due to the security).
