As a hardworking mother, you want to get everything done this summer and look and feel your best. Summer is the time for swimming, being outdoors and having fun, and there can be a bit of apprehension when it comes to showing off your summer body. Summertime lifts people’s moods, and the sunshine certainly helps. When you’re in a good mood, you usually look good.

Besides the sunshine, there are a few things you can do for this summer that improve your health and appearance so you can truly have that summertime glow and feel your best. Here’s how moms can improve their health and appearance this summer.

Take Care of Your Skin

First things first — you need to take care of your skin. Many people go into summer wanting the best tans and smoothest skin. However, on that first day of warm sunshine, remember to wear sunscreen. This is for both your health and appearance. Sunburns dry out your skin and damages your skin long-term. The more times you get burnt or don’t wear sunscreen, the higher your risk for melanoma or skin cancer.

If you do not like the idea of always using sunscreen try to find at least the products that contain ingredients that will keep your skin hydrated and moisturized for a day. For instance, while washing your skin in the morning use soaps that do not contain chemical ingredients which may cause skin dryness, instead use all-natural soaps for better results. Those gently remove dirt and moisturize your skin simultaneously. Natural goat milk soaps contain fat that nourishes and moisturizes the skin without stripping its oils. For vegan people, there is an alternative and that is coconut milk soaps which also help to moisturize your skin and hydrate it.

Getting a tan slowly this summer is the healthiest way to get that bronzed skin. After long days in the sun, be sure to moisturize your entire body. It helps keep your color for a good appearance, and it reduces damage to your skin.

Drink a Lot of Water

During all times of the year, you should drink plenty of water. In the summertime, though, you tend to be outside more, sweating from the heat and getting dehydrated. Make sure you drink water — and plenty of it. It will keep you healthy and hydrated. Avoid sugary drinks and a lot of alcohol, which can further your dehydration.

Water helps your appearance, too. When you stay adequately hydrated, your skin is plumper and doesn’t dry out as easily. Your body relies on water for essential functions, so make sure to keep a glass of water at hand throughout the summer.

Get Into a Workout Routine

As a mom, it may be challenging to find time to get into a workout routine. However, if you want to look and feel your best this summer, make sure you get up and move. You don’t have to go to the gym every day for multiple hours. Simply taking the dog for a walk or going for a family bike ride are great ways to get in a workout.

Get your family involved in the workouts, too! Take the family to your community pool, go on a hike, adventure around your hometown or play a sport together a few times every week. As long as you keep moving this summer, your body will appreciate you.

Maintain Healthy Habits

Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean you should completely throw out your school-year routine as a mom. Having some healthy routines and habits that extend into summer will help keep your immune system strong, and it will help keep your appearance to par.

Make sure you get enough sleep. It can be tempting to stay up later into the night to soak in every moment of the warm summer air, but a lack of sleep will hurt your health, and you’ll look tired the next day. Additionally, maintain a healthy diet. Eat the fresh fruits and vegetables that the summertime has to offer. Don’t rely on the ice cream truck and food trucks all summer — save those for extra special occasions and treats!

Take a Spa Day

Treat yourself to a spa day at least once this summer. Send the kids with your partner or their grandparents and take a day for yourself! When you go to a spa, you get extra special treatment. It’s a time to completely relax your mind and body, giving you a health and appearance boost.

Professionals at spas test and hydrate your skin. They’ll exfoliate and moisturize, which gives your skin a lift and gets your body ready for all of the swim parties. A self-care day is just what every mom needs in the summer!

Care for Your Hair

You know how to treat your skin and body this summer, but what about your hair? Depending on your hair type, you might have frizzy hair when the humidity rolls in, or it might get a bit greasy from the heat and sweat. Plus, the sun’s rays can do incredible damage to your locks.

Take care of your hair this summer, too, and keep it looking its best. Using the right shampoo, conditioner and hair products, like ones that include ultraviolet protection, will help keep your hair healthy and hydrated. Talk to your hairstylist about a haircare plan for the summer.

Wear Breathable Clothes

Finally, make sure you wear breathable clothes. It gets hot in the summer, and sometimes, places you go may have no air conditioning. You want to look and feel fresh, so choose fabrics that are soft, light and breathable.

This helps you feel comfortable and look great, but it also helps prevent irritation and rashes on your skin from thick or heavy fabrics rubbing against sticky and sweaty skin. Plus, you reduce your chances of heat exhaustion when you give your body room to breathe. You’ll look more attractive by showing a little skin, and your skin will thank you for keeping your outfits light and loose!

Enjoy a Healthy, Happy Summer

With these tips, moms can improve their health and appearance this summer. Take care of your body, and you’ll be looking and feeling your best summer self!
