This weeks “Meet the Maker” article is about Andrea Baker, designer and owner of Handmade by Andrea Baker.
Meet Andrea Baker –
Q: Tell us a little about yourself and your designs. My name is Andrea Baker and I enjoy sewing and crafting. I first got into sewing a few years ago when I decided I wanted my own handbag. Something that no one else had. So I created my very own bag and received so many compliments that I decided to open up a shop. From there my designs have evolved and also grew to include other items. Q: Where did the idea for your designs originate?
My ideas originate from different places. if I see a shape that intrigues me somewhere I will run with an idea. I’ve had several etsy friends request aprons so I began creating aprons using the verbal information my customers gave me. Q: What makes your items different from others?
My items are different because they are made by me and there for have my very own touch included in them. I also create my own patters off the cuff. Q: Do you offer custom orders?
I absolutely love to do custom orders. If you have a vision for what you want, come talk to me and I’ll see what we can come up with. Q: What are your most popular items?

Q: What is your vision for your handmade business? My vision for my business is to keep evolving, to keep moving forward and adding new items and new designs as well as keep the old designs. Q: What has been the strangest/weirdest experience you’ve ever had when being inspired with a new item or new business venture?
Once I went shopping for a custom order and purchased the fabrics then the next day I went back to the same store looking for a different set of fabrics for a customer and without knowing it I purchased the same exact fabrics. The lady who cut my fabric thought that was pretty strange of me. lol Q: What is the most rewarding aspect of the etsy community for you and your business?
I love being a part of such a large community of wonderful artists. My favorite team is Fabulous Artistic Moms. We really are a group of great supportive women. Its wonderful to be able to turn to one of them and say I need some help or some support and they are always there. I have also learned SO much about business practices from my fellow FAM members. Q: Does your family support your etsy business?
My oldest daughter has been my model several times. My family will also tell me if something doesn’t look quit right. They are very supportive of my business. And I love them for that.
