Our winters consist of cold, wind and usually snow. This year seems to be a little different though.. in a strange way. We have above normal temps, the sun is shining and we are having a lot of rain and thunderstorms.. no snow!
I’m certainly okay with no snow.. but I do like a little snow for the holidays and the kids love to get all bundled up and go play in the snow. It has also given us a little more time to winterize the house too. We have a friend in the AC business who shared some easy tips to help prepare your air condition for winter.
- Clear away any debris. Make sure you clear away any leave and twigs around the air conditioner. If you don’t the debris can freeze and cause a lot of trouble with your air conditioner.
- Turn it off. You need to make sure your air condition is actually turned off so that it doesn’t try and kick on during the winter time.
- Cover it. This is probably one of the best things you can do this winter. If you cover the air conditioner it will help keep the moisture out and protect it from the cold winter weather.
From there you will just want to keep an eye on it this winter. You don’t want to let a lot of snow it on the air conditioner cover so be sure to clean it off if you do get a lot of snow.
These are just a few tips that can help you protect your air conditioner through the winter months. We just had ours replaced last year after it went out on us so we have zone in on different tips to help us avoid that situation for a very long time.
And don’t be afraid to ask your local heating and air company about other tips you can do to help protect your air condition during the winter, they’ll be able to give you some good useful tips and instructions.
