If you clean your home one day, only to find it’s a bombsite the next, you might be wondering how to keep on top of the mess with a busy family. Maintaining cleanliness and keeping everything in tip-top shape is not always easy with a busy schedule, but here are five tips that are sure to help you out.
Stock up on products
Firstly, always make sure you have enough cleaning products to hand, be it homemade lemon and water spray or latex gloves from the likes of brosch direct. That way, when something gets a little grubby you can simply reach into the cupboard and find everything you need – when you need it. After all, if you’re out of polish you’ll be less likely to shine your sofas than if there was some nestled underneath the sink.
Draw up a cleaning rota
House maintenance is not the job of one person and one person only. Everyone living under the same roof should chip in in some way, so don’t burden yourself with all tasks and instead draw up a cleaning schedule and rota. This will not only lighten the load, but it’ll ensure basic cleaning chores get done on a regular basis making them easier to keep track of and handle.
What’s more, if there are any maintenance jobs that need doing such as fixing roof tiles or caulking the bath tub, you can always draw a separate column for these and tick them off as you go.
Clean as you go
If you’ve ever had to scrub Weetabix off the bottom of a bowl at night that you just threw on the side in the morning, you’ll know it’s no easy task. This hard-nut of a cereal dries on like cement, as does other food types, which is why it’s better to clean as you go. Do the washing up as soon as your meal is over and sit down in a nice, clean house, rather than letting everything fester for a later date.
Choose a spring clean day
Mess is easily created, so as well as implementing a cleaning rota, why not also introduce a spring clean day where everyone blitzes a certain part of the house for one hour in the morning? This is quite literally an all hands on deck approach which is designed to be short, sharp and productive – and if everyone is cleaning at the same time (perhaps with music playing in the background), it shouldn’t feel like much of a chore.
Think about storage
Cleanliness is one thing, but if your house is messy rather than dirty, you might want to rethink your storage solutions. Furniture with hidden compartments is one option or you could simply invest in clever storage options for small spaces such as under stairs cabinets, bookshelves that make the most of vertical space without taking up much floor space and wall shelving. You could even transform areas which are often forgotten about such as the wall above the bath, making them more useful than before.
There are ways to maintain your home with a busy family, you just have to be proactive rather than reactive and get everyone involved, so give the above tips a go.
