Green Clean Your Kitchen in 10 Minutes or Less

As a busy working mom, it seems like there are never enough hours in the day. Sound familiar? If so, you’re not alone.

More than 72 percent of women feel they work a “second shift” when it comes to their daily life responsibilities, according to findings from the 2013 Work/Life Balance Survey conducted by the green cleaning franchise Maid Brigade.

Time to ditch your ordinary cleaning arsenal for a natural cleaning routine that is quick, safe, and healthy for you and your family. Start in the kitchen with these green cleaning tips for germ hot spots. Oh and did I mention it only takes 10 minutes?

Here is what you will need:

  • Lemon juice
  • White vinegar
  • Lemon
  • Salt
  • Baking soda
  • Microfiber cloth

Microwave

Fill a microwave safe bowl with 1 cup of water and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Place the bowl in the microwave and heat up the water/lemon juice combination for 3 minutes. The steam and acid in the lemon juice loosens food particles, making them easy to remove. Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave, as it may be hot. Wipe down the inside of the microwave with the microfiber cloth. Voila!

Countertops

In a clean spray bottle, add 1 cup of water, 1 cup of white vinegar, and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Shake to mix. Spray on the countertop. Wipe down with a microfiber cloth. Nice and clean! *Avoid using on granite countertops as the mixture can break down the seal over time.

Sink

Cut 1 lemon in half. Pour about 1 tablespoon of table salt on a cutting board or other flat surface. Press the face of the lemon on the salt to coat. Scrub the sink with the lemon/salt combination. No chemical smell! *Use this recipe on porcelain or stainless steel sinks.

Oven

Fill an ovenproof dish with 1 cup of water. Place in the oven. Heat the water in the oven until the steam softens the baked-on grime. Let the oven cool. Mix 8 tablespoons of salt, 8 tablespoons of baking soda, and 8 tablespoons of white vinegar into a paste. Scrub the oven surfaces with a microfiber cloth. Wipe clean with a fresh microfiber cloth. Clean as a whistle!
