Over time any house can get messy. If you’ve got a big family, it’s even easier. However, you don’t have to live in a home where everything seems to be all over the place and every drawer seems like the junk drawer when you open it.
Trust me, as a mom who takes care of a busy household full time, I’ve been where you are – frustrated with a messy house. Use this guide to help you clear the clutter from every space in your home and make your house feel a whole lot nicer in the process.
Discard Unused Items
When you’re cleaning up any home you’re likely to find all sorts of items that simply aren’t ones you use anymore. If you have a family living with you, you’re even more likely to find tons of stuff that you don’t really need. Chances are a good amount of that stuff doesn’t even work anymore.
When you’re going through your home, take the time to throw everything away that seems like trash. It can be hard to part with things you paid for, but that shirt with an iron spot on it or the video game controller that doesn’t work right just isn’t worth keeping.
It doesn’t have any value to anybody else either, so put those items in the trash.
Donate Usable Items
A house fills up with all sorts of things that are in decent shape but you no longer use. Just a few examples from the average home could include everything from items of clothing to children’s toys to electronics that have been replaced with newer models.
However, there are lots of items you can donate to charity in the average household. Many charities will pick them up and sell them to others who need them or give them away to individuals who can’t afford to buy.
You’ll also get a tax deduction if you fill out some very basic paperwork, so you can save money by simply getting rid of items that would otherwise just be taking up space in your house! That really is a win-win situation.
Have a Garage Sale
Big ticket items that still work well but are too expensive for you to donate can easily be sold at a garage sale. Try having a neighborhood garage sale or teaming with neighbors to plan one. You’ll attract a lot more traffic this way.
You can also sell items online these days through local classifieds sites with relative ease and no fees.
