Family Summer Fun Ideas
So, maybe it’s not summer just yet but that doesn’t mean you can’t be prepared for when the children descend on you for the six weeks holidays! It can be very easy for your children to have too much screen time, especially if you’re working from home or need a little peace and quiet! So it’s important to have activities that you can join in with as well as activities that the kids can do on their own.
Many families go away for the summer, whether it’s a week-long break in the sun or a weekend trip to the Grandparents house, if you do it’s important that you look into some travel insurance. From a safe trip single trip to a group travel policy that will cover everyone in your party, insurance is something no traveler should be without.
With that in mind, here are some family summer fun ideas for you to get stuck into – before or after you head off on your summer travels!
Go and Pick Your Own

This is a great one to enjoy with the kids and it’s something you can really benefit from! Whether you head to a farm to pick some strawberries, blueberries or tomatoes or you head to the hedgerow to pick some succulent blackberries to make some homemade jam. Picking your own fruit or veg is a great way to show your children where produce comes from and you can all reap the rewards with a sweet fruit pie, a crispy salad or a delicious bowl of strawberries and cream. Delicious!
Talk To The Animals

Whether you’re heading to the local zoo or there’s a nearby petting zoo you’ve been meaning to visit, heading out and meeting some new furry friends is a great way to spend an afternoon. Many zoos and parks hold demonstrations where you can watch keepers feed animals and some even allow their younger visitors to hold the smaller animals and feed them too!
Let The Kids Cook Dinner

This isn’t as scary as it sounds! As long as you are there to supervise, there shouldn’t be any nasty cuts or burns! If you keep it simple, like letting them make their own pizzas then everyone can have plenty of fun without getting hurt! From mixing the dough to kneading it out onto a pizza board – and don’t forget about adding all the delicious toppings! You could really shake things up by making a sweet pizza!
Break Out The Chalks

This is something the kids can have fun with while you’re busy. Get yourself some large sticks of chalk and let them loose on the paving stones and patio space in your garden! From hopscotch to drawing flowers and dinosaurs, let your little one discover their inner Picasso! Just remember to make sure they can’t escape onto the street!
Read a Book

Create a summer library for you and your children to enjoy, both together and alone. Set a certain number of books to read before the holidays are over. Think of all the adventures you’ll go on!
