There are many reasons why we might want to pack up our bags and jet off for a new life somewhere different. Life can throw all manner of curveballs our way that can lead to such decisions. That said, it really is a huge decision to make and there is a lot to think about before deciding to move overseas.

Escaping is one of the main reasons we do that. Whether it be political or economical goings on in a country, or something more personal. Broken relationships is a major reason, while more and more people who have suffered from the likes of addiction decide to leave their old life behind to start afresh.

Many people who go through an alcohol or drug rehab centre want to escape the life that caused them to suffer alcohol or drug addiction in the first place. But of course, it isn’t quite as simple as that. It’s not as simple as that for anyone, under any circumstances.

One of the main questions to ask yourself is whether you can live without the close support of loved ones. Moving thousands of miles from home can be stressful, which can be problematic, especially if you are moving due to things that can put strain on your mental health such as addiction or relationship breakdowns, and not having people close by can make it that little bit more difficult.

It might be that it simply isn’t the right time for you to make the move, and you need a little longer with loved ones to be comfortable enough to do so.

Naturally, one of the biggest things to consider is whether you can afford to move. In some cases, the cost of living may be much lower in the place you want to move to. However, in others it could be more costly too.

Do your research before making the move, exploring the prices of the likes of rent, bills, transportation and even day-to-day items groceries as it can all mount up. Of course, it’s also important to understand what type of work is available too, and whether that suits what you’re looking for.

There are lots of complexities to moving abroad. You can’t just pack up and leave, so you need to make sure all the necessary checks, visas and paperwork is compelte to ensure you actually get the life you want when you do leave.

Each country is different, so make sure you visit the necessary government websites to get a firm grasp on what you need to do, and whether you’ll even be accepted into the country.
