Must-Have Items for Your Dance Classes

Dance Classes

You might have been a dancer in your high school days, and wish to revisit that time in your life. What better way to do this than to indulge in any of the many dance styles. In addition to letting your spirit soar, dance is a great form of exercise.

Of course, you need a place to start. You’ve opted for hip hop class. Good for you! Now is the time to gear up with the right outfit which also entails accessories. A good place to find the appropriate leg-wear is at just for kix. The harem pants sold there come in nearly every flavor imaginable – from sequined jumpers to camouflaged. These form just the base of your outfit though. There’s much more that needs to go in your dance bag.

Shoes

This must-have, of course, depends on the type of dance you’ve gotten yourself into. For the hip hop dance purpose, you’ll want a pair or two of boot-sized sneakers – at least, that’s the conventional wear. The high-top nature of the shoes are to tuck your harem pants into them; as well as for style. They cannot be actual boots, though, otherwise you’ll sacrifice mobility.

If you’re getting into ballet, opt for ballet shoes, pointe shoes and jazz sneakers should be on your list of things to get. Toe pads are helpful, so make sure to pack enough for every pair of shoes. If any of the kicks have special additions, such as glitter or decorative paint, store them individually in ziplock bags before putting them in the dance/gym bag.

Extra Clothing

Being a dancer can be unpredictable, so keep extra pair of undergarments. On days when you have a performance following a recital, you’ll be glad you have a change of clothing for the next routine. Every extra pair of tights you bring should have its own plastic bag – sealed tight. It may take going to a few dance recitals to eventually become familiar with all the things you need to bring an extra pair of, but the ones mentioned above will be a good start.

Entertainment

This can be in the form of a tablet or a good book. As a dancer, you’ll experience plenty of downtime even when you’re in the thick of it. Unless you’re a marathon texter and always have something to say to friends and family, then you’ll want a couple of your favorite magazines or a book with you. Besides – sometimes it isn’t convenient to have an electronic form of entertainment.

Nourishment

Some dance instructors recommend candy; but this should be kept to a minimum. What you really want are protein-centric snacks for sustained energy and concentration. Sweets in moderation never hurt an active person, so feel free to pack a few. It’s best to eat small amounts of whatever you pack at intervals throughout the day, so your body can process the energy in time for you to use it when needed.

Even more important is hydration. For this, avoid sugary drinks and keep a water bottle or flask with you. Sports drinks such as Gatorade and Powerade are fine; but water is essentially free, and it performs the work of hydration perfectly.

Extras

Many of these items vary from person to person; but some just make common sense. You may need a hairbrush, for example. Rollers, resistance bands, bandages, deodorant and hand sanitizers are also good items to pack. When you’re on the go, you’ll be happy to have your dance bag.
