Cream Cheese Brownies

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Directions:

1. Prepare the brownies as directed on the package for cake-like brownies. Fold in the white chocolate or vanilla chips. Pour half the batter into a greased 13″ x 9″ x 2″ pan.

2. Place the cream cheese, butter and sugar in a small bowl and beat with an electric mixer at low speed until smooth. Beat in the egg, flour and orange extract.

3. Spread the cream cheese mixture over the batter in the pan. Next, drop the remaining brownie batter by tablespoons over the cream cheese layer. Take a knife and cut through the batter to create a swirl pattern in the batter.

4. Bake the brownies at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the middle of the pan is clean when you take it off. Cool the brownies on the wire rack.

When the brownies are cool, prepare the frosting as follows:

1. Melt the butter and chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Allow the mixture to cool slightly before stirring in the confectioner’s sugar and enough milk to give the frosting a spreadable texture.

2. Spread frosting on brownies, cut, and serve.

These brownies are just as delicious without frosting. The white chocolate or vanilla chips are optional, and may be omitted if the brownie mix contains fudge chunks or chocolate chips.
