Acetaminophen Dosage PSA

Acetaminophen is one of the most commonly taken pain killers in the world. When properly dosed, it is safe and effective, perfect for mild to moderate pain, and perfect for daily use.

Because it is cheap to produce, good at its job, and non-addictive, acetaminophen ends up in lots of different pain killers: TYLENOL®, Mucinex®, Alka-Seltzer Plus®, NyQuil, DayQuil, and Percocet, to name a few. When taking any medications for pain, make sure to take not of their potential acetaminophen content. There is a safe minimum dosage that you can calculate, but the best rule of thumb is simply to take only one medicine containing acetaminophen at a time. Taking too much can result in damage to the liver, and often causes liver failure.

It is common to take these medicines for everyday pain, like back pain, arthritis, or pain resulting from surgery. It is especially important to take note of acetaminophen when in bodily pain, because it is easy to take too much impulsively. It is also common to take medicines containing acetaminophen while suffering from common cold and flu symptoms. Again, it is simple to ignore recommended doses and to mix medications in order to get relief from the aches and pains associated with cold and flu. Carefully store your acetaminophen-containing medications together, so that you know exactly which ones contain the medicine and which ones don’t. That way you can be sure that you are never taking more than one at a time, and that no one else in your household is either. With proper attention, you should be able to relieve mild to moderate pain for yourself and those you love, with no danger at all. Acetaminophen is common and easy to acquire. Don’t let it slip by you this holiday season.
