Shop Around.

With today’s technology it is possible to compare electricity prices with websites like Energyhelpline.com. Most online services that can help compare prices will be able to analyze all energy suppliers in your area and within minutes you’ll be able to see how much you can save with each electricity company.

Check Your Thermostat

Be sure to check your thermostat regularly and get it maintained on a regular basis by a professional.

You can also set your thermostat at 68 degrees F. during the day and 60 degrees F. at night. You can save 3 percent on your heating costs for every degree you reduce the temperature below 70 degrees F. For the heating season keep your thermostat set at 68.  Be sure to also turn down your thermostat when you know you’ll be away for more than 4 hours during the day.

Weatherize Your Home

When you weatherize your home you’re allowing it to withstand temperature changes and extreme conditions from outside. Not only can it save tons of energy but it can also help save money on gas and electric bills.

Some examples:

  • Caulk, weatherstrip and install storm windows in the winter to keep out drafts
  • Fill in any small holes, nooks, etc that may let air in or out. You can also take air conditioners out of the windows during Winter months to help keep the air from coming in or out.
  • Use shades to help keep the heat our during the day and in at night during the Summer, in Winter months you can open them to let the sun bring in some warmth.
