Picture Keeper Review and Giveaway

I’ve become a little crazy about backing up our videos and pictures because a few months ago the SD card that came with our digital camera just stopped working, it would allow us to get any pictures off of it, so we lost over 1,000 pictures (at least) from when the twins were born. We also lost pictures of the family enjoying the twins and holding them for the first time when we brought them home. I was devastated because we lost those irreplaceable pictures forever.

Recently, I had the opportunity to test out a product called the Picture Keeper. I love the idea behind this and how easy it is to use. The Picture Keeper is a little USB drive that you can plug in to your computer and it will automatically detect and download all of your image files so that you have a backup of your priceless pictures. I jumped on the chance to try this because of the experience we had with our camera’s SD card.

The Picture Keeper is probably the most simple gadget I’ve ever used. You literally just plug the Picture Keeper into a USB port and follow the directions, the back of the packaging also has the directions so you can use that as an easy reference. It pretty much does the work for you, it will automatically start searching for pictures on all your drives and then it will copy and store the pictures on the USB. If you have more than one computer with pictures on it like we do, just plug the Picture Keeper in to all of your computer and let it do it’s thing. It works on both Mac & PC’s!

Once you have your images downloaded to the Picture Keeper you can take it to your favorite drug store and print the picture off at the kiosk right from the USB drive. If you have a digital photo frame you can plug it in for an instant slide show!

I was impressed with the Picture Keeper and how easy it was to operate, I also love the fact that you don’t have to download any software for it to work. Also, every time you take new photos and download them to your computer, just plug in the Picture Keeper and it will find the new or modified files and add only those. We have a few family members who aren’t very computer savvy and since this device is so easy to use, I went ahead and purchase a few of them as gifts. Even our 76-year old grandparents, who don’t know how to get onto the internet or check their email, said that using the Picture Keeper was easy to use.

The Picture Keeper is available at http://www.picturekeeper.com and comes in 4GB ($29.99), 8GB ($39.99), and 16GB ($59.99) sizes. They are even working on an external hard drive version which would be able to hold 100-300+ GB.

If you place an order through PictureKeeper.com, enter the discount “Blogger10″ to receive 10% off your purchase!

I also want to congratulate Picture Keeper for winning the Dr. Toy Best Vacation Products for Summer 2009 award!

My mom has had a digital camera for over 12 years. The problem is, she’s never really learned how to move or back-up files! She’s already lost some files because of bad floppies (from her Mavica) and a couple of motherboard crashes. First, following the steps off the “What size do I need” analyzer, we are at the threshold of the 4 GB limit, so our choice would be one of the two larger sizes (8 or 16 GB). Next, why would we love to win this?!? Because memories can only be replaced by… (wait for it)… memories!

  54. Alison B says:

I’d need the 16GB because I have an older camera that STILL has pictures on it after not using it for a year, and my new camera LCD screen broke, so I’m in the market for another. I have soo many memory cards laying around.

  100. Wow. I would need the “larger options” of 160 gb! So, I guess the 16 gb would be a good start! My pc is within 3 gb of being full and my husband’s laptop is only 1 gb away (due to my “emergency” downloads). Yes, I have a problem! Is there a photo storage anonymous?

Pictures are a good place to start, and though I have most of them backed up on picasaweb, I don’t think you can put a price on memories & would rather have them double or triple backed up! This just looks so easy, I’ve got to try it. I have a little over 2 GB of pics-I thought it would be more!-so I need the 4GB size, thanks!

The reason I would LOVE to have this is because unfortunately, I share a similar story to yours. When my 5 year old son was about two, I had over 2,000 pictures saved on my computer. A virus not only crashed my computer, but literally burned it inside (my room was full of smoke) and I lost everything!!! I literally didn’t care at all about my computer b/c I could buy a new one. But my memories of my baby were gone forever! I was devastated!!!! I even paid a professional who works for on government computers, but there was no hope. So I could totally use this Picture Keeper. It is awesome!
