Recently, a company called the Leakey Collection, sent over some handmade jewelry from their collection. They were kind enough to send me a piece from their Zulugrass collection and they even sent Stacy, our cancer mom, a few pieces from their Breast Cancer Awareness collection.

Looking around on their website, the jewelry is just beautiful, it’s stunning. It’s even more stunning in person and I’ve been wearing my Zulugrass every chance I can get and so has Stacy. We both absolutely love the design, the colors, the quality and everything else about it. All of the jewelry is very chic and affordable which is awesome. Another great thing about the jewelry is that it’s versatile, each piece can be worn as a necklace, bracelet, etc so you can mix it up any time you’d like. You could even get creative and wear the jewelry as a belt or to pull back your hair to make your look even more beautiful.

What I really love about the Leakey Collection is the story behind it and that it’s helping other women. The Leakey Collection was founded in 2002 by Katy and Philip Leakey, who have been living amongst the Maasai women in Kenya. Katy and Philip wanted to find a way to help these women by providing them with work opportunities without changing their culture. So to accomplish this, Katy came up with the idea of Zulugrass, a beaded single strand on elastic in colors that are contemporary and are assembled by the Maasai women where they are able to take their children to work with them and are able to work when they want to work.

If you’re not into the Zulugrass, the Leakey Collection offers some other beautiful handmade jewelry like Zuluwood, Porcelain, and more. They also offer other accessories such as belts, sunglass holders bangles and more.

It’s a pretty cool idea and I have to say Wow – Imports probably has the best quality of name necklaces that I’ve seen. A few years ago I received a similar jewelry piece from a different company, not for a review but as a gift item and within a short period of time the peice which had my name on it broke in half. How this happened, I have no idea but it did. So when I received the name necklace from Wow-Imports the quality of the name piece was what I tested out first. It’s good quality, I couldn’t even bend it, so I know it’ll withstand a good few years at least. It also looks gorgeous, doesn’t look cheap at all.

This would definitely make a cool and unique idea for the upcoming holidays.. I received a silver name necklace but they have tons and tons of different styles as well as other personalized jewelry.. I would love to get my daughter one when she’s a little older!

Recently I had the opportunity to review a few Memory Maker bracelets by Ashley B. They were awesome enough to send 2 items for me to review for Mom Fuse, and I’m loving both of the pieces so much that I think I’ve found the perfect gift for my husband’s grandmother.

The two pieces I was sent to review was the Photo Bands Elastic Bracelet and one of the Ribbonz Adjustable Stretch Bracelet. With the jewelry, they also sent a catalog book type of thing so that I could see what other items they offer. From looking at the booklet and seeing the jewelry in person, I think anything from Ashley B. and Memory Maker line would make a great gift for anyone.. either for the upcoming holidays or just because.

The quality of the the jewelry is awesome. I love the Ribbonz bracelet because it is made from stretch material and can fit any size wrist. I have funky wrists so most of the time non-adjustable jewlery doesn’t fit me well.. but this bracelet is very cool because I can adjust it to wear it loose or tight and it stretches allowing me to wear it comfortably. It also looks very stylish and trendy.

Another thing that is really cool is that the photos can be swapped out at any time. If you’ve ordered custom photo jewelry before you know that with most items, you can’t remove or replace the photo.. you’re pretty much stuck with the one you chose to have put on the jewelry piece.. but with the Memory Maker bracelets, I can exchange photos whenever I feel like it. Awesome!

The Pink Chandelier - These whimsical and sturdy bags retail for $20 for three bags and a carry case. I liked how they folded compactly into a little square that fits easily into my purse so that I can keep it with me for those small or quick shopping trips to the drugstore etc. I’d also use them for outings to the beach, library, and park.

Mommy in Pink – Although they carry many different styles that appeal to just about anyone, my personal favorite are the “Acts Of Kindness” totes designed by Emma Hand. They are just so simple, with such a powerful message. I don’t go anywhere without reusable totes on hand, and I love the fact that these particular totes can hold up to 20 pounds!

Grammy Janet’s Place – I chose the Santa Fe Black Sundance Bracelet and I am glad that I did because I love wearing it. It has a touch of sparkling shine and it looks more expensive than it’s price. I am wearing it as I write this and it feels very comfortable.It is not tight and that is important to me when I purchase a beaded bracelet.

From Melissa’s Desk - The Navajo Brown w/ Cross Necklace is gorgeous. It has hand-blown glass beads in a variety of earthy tones. I had the most compliments while wearing it! It’s truly become one of my favorite pieces of jewelry! It’s quality made and fashionable!

The Post-It Place - I carried my tote on our Road Trip yesterday to tote all of my treasures around in. They are so handy because they fold up into about a 2X3 size and are convenient to carry with you wherever you go…and they hold LOTS of stuff.

The Sassy Southerner – And the S.H.O.P tote bag. OMG I absolutely love it. I love the retro colors. I haven’t been to town yet to use it but when I do, I’m sure I will get some reactions from it. And if you had any of the items from Calypso Studio, you too would get some reactions.

Baby Loving Mama – I also received this wonderful Copper Arabian Nights necklace. At first glance I thought it was going to be super heavy and uncomfortable but the necklace is surprisingly lightweight without feeling cheap. My favorite part of this piece is its versatility. It will go with just about anything! It is really a steal at only $15 and there are lots of other colors available.

The Clan McLeod – The Calypso S.H.O.P. Totes are made from 100% polyester, which makes them hand washable, and each one holds up to 20 lbs of weight. The purse style handles are perfect for allowing me to carry the tote over my shoulder and leaving my hands free to handle the car keys or other bags. I want more of these! So stylish and fun!

The Way I See It Too -  The beautiful handcrafted pieces are works of art. I have found in my pursuit of preserving our planet that “green” choices aren’t always easy or economical. Calypso Studios is helping to make my choices easier, as well as economical and beautiful all at the same time. And that makes perfect sense to me. How many shops do you know that have their own Green Mission Statement?

The Haute Stuff – Here’s what I love about them. They have a variety of awesome prints, so there really is something for everyone. The other thing I love…they fold up into these tiny little squares and then they snap up so that you can toss them into your purse so that you’ll never forget to bring them into the store with you.

Mom of 2 Boys, Wife of 1 – Seriously, using my own totes I don’t have to worry about bags ripping and groceries flying everywhere either. The S.H.O.P. Totes handles are plenty big enough to carry over your shoulder too, making carrying so much easier than trying to get your arm through a little opening of a plastic shopping bag.

Tara’s View of the World – S.H.O.P. stands for “Start Helping Our Planet” and using these great bags is another way we can go green. I have used my S.H.O.P. tote several times. It is light and durable with lots of space and it looks fantastic too!

Rockin’ Mama – Americans throw away 100 billion bags every year and they end up in our landfills and oceans. Some companies (i.e. Whole Foods) have eliminated all plastic bags from their stores and give you a small compensation for bringing in your own reusable bag. There are tons of reusable bags available, but I’ve yet to see one as cute and stylish as those offered at Calypso Studios.

Riding With No Hands – S.H.O.P. Totes hold up to 20 pounds, perfect for lugging groceries home, but my favorite feature is that they fold into themselves so that I can easily throw one in my diaper bag. Made of polyester, the bags are easily washable.

The Glamorous WAHM – The Red Coco Loco necklace is a triple strand of light weight coconut shells on a knotted necklace. This is the perfect accent to a nice, breezy, linen summer outfit. I’m thinking a white sleeveless shirt with a long white skirt, with long slits up the sides and a glamorous pair of flat open toe sandals or flip flops. Oh can’t you just see it? I can! And you know I chose the RED, my favorite color.

Pink & Posh – I opened the package on the way to my daughter’s ballet class and because I was wearing a black tee shirt, I went ahead and put on the bracelet. I swear, the other moms almost ripped my arm off trying to see the gorgeous bracelet! They were even more surprised to find that they could purchase their own for only $10 and that there were so many different colors to choose from!

Dore’s Diaries – I am a big fan of Calypso Studios Inc. and love knowing there are companies out there that really do care about saving our earth! They are even collaborating with several environmental organizations to help with their causes of keeping Mother Earth’s landfills and waterways free of plastic and paper bags. A percentage of all the sales will go towards these agencies.

Coffee With the Mrs. – What I love about the S.H.O.P. Tote is the size and strength of the bag. I’ve taken it grocery shopping many times and can fit a lot of groceries in it when I’m packing them up. Also, when it’s not being used, there is a small strap that can wrap around the bag when it’s folded up to help it store easily.

The Plus Size Mommy – They [S.H.O.P. Totes] come in a carrying case pack of 3 for $20 ! Which is a steal considering the quality and sheer beauty of these tote bags. (Not to mention your helping preserve the Earth!) There are many Shop Totes to choose from!

1 Stop Mom – With the S.H.O.P. tote I also received a Green Tia Necklace. I can only find one word to describe it. Beautiful. It is almost like this necklace was made just for me. Don’t you just love it when you come across something that makes you feel like that? First of all green is my favorite color and this necklace is the perfect shade. The length is perfect too. I am finding that I prefer necklaces that are longer. They just feel more comfortable to me. The Green Tia Necklace is 40″ long. It costs $25 and has some beautiful earrings that match for only $8. Don’t let me forget that the necklace and earrings are handmade with coin pearl and bar briolettes.

She Scribes – The Calypso Studios totes are very well made and they wash up very well too! My son got some vanilla ice cream on mine and I was able to wash it off easily with a damp cloth and a little soap. I haven’t put my tote in the washer yet but I’m sure it would wash well. I just suggest line drying. I’m not sure if the material can be dried in a hot drier.

In either of her two shops you will find unique and fashionable “nameplate” jewelry in both silver and gold. Her pieces range from $25 to $110 (+$4 for shipping) depending on the material and style. This nameplate was put on a 14″ silver snake chain, perfect for children. Not only is the length appropriate, but unlike standard link chains, the snake chain doesn’t get caught in my daughters hair or on her clothing. This may not be an important factor when buying for adults, but when you have a squirmish toddler, it’s a big deal! I tried to get a picture of my daughter actually wearing it, but since she’s such a ham, she wouldn’t get her face out of the camera, lol.

Any of the pieces from BeautyName would make a great gift for children or adults. The price is right and the quality is above-average. Rani can design a necklace with any name with 10 letters or less and a number of different fonts. Check out BeautyName to see the selection.

I will tell you, the only problem you will have with this product is choosing which design to purchase! I settled on The World on a String Neckleash. I loved the metal beads and black fire polish on this particular piece and thought it would work perfectly for the style of clothing I typically wear.

When the package arrived, I was surprised to find that I was sent a Leash and Neckleash to try. What fun! I ended up loving both, and I switch between the two quite often.

This past Valentine’s Day, I received a GORGEOUS piece of jewelry (but it wasn’t from my husband!). I have to start by saying thank you to Nicole at Mom Fuse for coordinating this amazing review opportunity!

I know you’re wondering what I received…well here is a picture!

It is a beautiful bracelet designed by Sergio Gutierrez. Sergio is the very talented designer behind Liquid Metal Collection. An electronic engineer by trade, he researched ways of using ball chain to create a mesh-like fabric. It was through this research that he developed the basis for his Liquid Metal Mesh line of jewelry and accessories. But he didn’t stop there! He received a patent for creating a unique technique called Liquid Microchip. He fused electronic circuitry components with bronze and silver base mesh, precious metals, and semi-precious stones. How ingenious is that? Some of his past and present clients include Betsey Johnson, Nordstrom, Bebe, and Cache. His designs have been worn by many celebrities including Demi Moore, Cher, Fergie and Sharon Stone.

Here is a little more about the Liquid Roots collection (my bracelet was from this collection) from the site:

I received a bracelet from the Liquid Roots collection complete with Rubys! The design is very modern but the Ruby accents give it that vintage edge. Despite the fact that each piece is hand-crafted, the quality is superb. The piece is bold enough to complement evening attire but easily adaptable to everyday outfits (like the occasional but cherished date nights with hubby). His entire collection is uniquely artistic combining vibrant, trendy style with high quality craftsmanship. Some of his designs now include the use of Swarovski Crystals.

Sergio has a growing concern for environmental issues and uses recycled computer parts to create some of the materials for his collection.

You can find pieces from the Liquid Metal Collection at the W and MGM Mirage hotels and at select Something Silver stores nationwide.

Ficklets Review

Last year at Ava’s eye appointment she heard the dreaded news that she had to get glasses. Every since then I’ve had to fight with her to wear them. You know the old saying “Four Eyes”! When I was offered the chance to review Ficklets…I jumped at it thinking that maybe a little bling would help Ava and get her to wear those darn glasses.

I was right, when the package arrived and we pulled them out. She said “Awesome.” We put them on her glasses. Which was very simple. She actually did it herself.
She couldn’t wait for school to start back up so she could show off her new Ficklets.

I definitely recommend this to those with little ones who have to wear glasses. Even us adults would look pretty cute in them. You can choose from categories such as Animals, Sports/Arts, Misc., Flowers, Shapes and Classic.

My personal favorites are the classics.You can’t go wrong with these. Very classy!
