Sunbelt Bakery Granola Bars Review & Giveaway

Ahh.. granola bars.. one of my favorite on the go snacks when school starts. I have always been a fan of granola bars, ever since I was a kid I enjoyed them as a snack and today as a busy mom running the kids around to school, sports events and other after school activities granola bars still seem to be my go to snack.

I’m sure you’re familiar with Sunbelt Bakery granola bars, their fruit and grain cereal bars, and their granola cereals made with whole-grains … if you said no let me formally introduce you!

Sunbelt Granola Bars

Sunbelt Bakery is family owned and is committed to whole grain snacks that provide nutrition on the go. Made with delicious fruits and nuts, like their soft and delicious Strawberry Fruit & Grain bars (which contain 11g of whole grains per serving!) or their new Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip chewy granola bars (only 130 calories). Sunbelt Bakery products never contain preservatives or high fructose corn syrup. Best of all, their snacks have an incredible bakery-fresh taste because new batches of baked goods are delivered weekly to a store near you!

Sunbelt Bakery 2

For this review we received a variety case of Sunbelt Bakery Granola Bars. The box was a mix of chewy granola bars, fruit and grain cereal bars and even some fudged dipped granola bars. Flavors included:

Chocolate Chip – A house favorite. No one could resist this one and it didn’t last long in our house at all!

Low Fat Oatmeal Raisin – This one was pretty good too.. it tasted to me like you were eating a fresh oatmeal raisin cookie that had been baked that day. I was told I could only have one of these for “testing purposes” and then they disappeared. I’m pretty sure my husband hid them away for himself!

Oats and Honey – This was actually one of my favorites and one I had never tried before. It doesn’t sound very flavorful but it actually is really really good. This was one of my daughter’s preferred flavors too (as you can see from her image above).

Fudge Dipped Chocolate Chip – Also a good one if you are a fan of chocolate and of course anything with the word Chocolate Chip seems to be a favorite here because this was a good one too. My son actually really enjoyed this was and asked to have one of these just about every days, sometimes more than once a day.

Fudge Dipped Coconut – I really enjoyed the fudge dipped coconut.. to me it reminded me of those coconut girl scout cookies (yea.. you know the one!).

Banana Harvest – This tasted just like fresh banana bread to me which made it pretty addicting. It definitely has a lot of flavor to it but it’s delicious, especially if you like banana bread!

Strawberry Fruit & Grain Bars – The kids enjoyed munching on these bars. They love the fruit taste and strawberry is always a big hit in our house.

Blueberry Fruit & Grain Bars – I have to be honest, I didn’t even get to try this one. This was one that seemed to disappear quickly, the whole box did.. I’m pretty sure my husband snatched this one up as well because he loves everything blueberry.

Almond (Sweet & Salty) – Who doesn’t love the taste of sweet and salty together? I know we do and I love almonds so I had to try this one. Just like the others it was pretty good tasting, I won’t lie.

I can’t wait to give their granola cereals a try.. we are actually heading out to the store today and I am going to look to see if I can find any of the cereals. The cereal flavors consist of Banana Nut, Low Fat Granola, Simple Granola and Fruit & Nut.

Truthfully, each and every flavor was good. Sunbelt Bakery Granola Bars are a house favorite, they always taste so fresh and each and every kind we have tried is flavorful.

Have you tried any of the granola bars or cereals? Did you enjoy them? What was your favorite?

Disclosure: I received free product from Sunbelt Bakery for sampling and giveaways. The opinions and giveaways offered here are my own.

a Rafflecopter giveaway A Savings Search Engine Review + $50 Gift Card Giveaway

As the holidays grow closer we all are looking for the best deals to shop online (I know I am!). Recently I was introduced to a new website called, think of it as a savings search engine for all of your shopping needs. Don’t think it as just another coupon website though, it’s got a few more features that I found really cool.

Here’s how it works: you enter your budget and choose a category.  Then, Chippmunk aggregates, compares, and ranks all of the best deals from retailers, showing you how much money you can save at each store (based on the budget you entered), and providing links and coupon codes to each.  You can also search for coupons based on specific stores (they have over 550 retail partners!).

To see it in action.. check out their Halloween costume deals that we did a search for, the search is based on a $50 budget. This is such a great idea because that means there is no more multiple Google searches for coupon codes, or opening up a bunch of different tabs to compare offers.  Instead, you can just shop with confidence knowing that they got the best deal online for your kids’ Halloween costumes all in one place.

Halloween costumes were just one example as to what you can search for, the site offers many different categories including “Back To School”, “Toys”, “Chocolate”, “Gifts” and many more. You can also search for coupons on the homepage by retailer.

Their blog even has a weekly round up of the best weekend deals which I find fun to follow. I also love the fact that they have real people who are behind the scenes to track and upload coupons so you get the best and newest deals and not expired deals.

Chippmunk Sales-Roundup was kind enough to offer our readers a very special giveaway!

Good luck!

Celebrate National Coffee Day with Starbucks and a Giveaway

Starbucks is launching its newest coffee this month that is a celebration of the birthplace of coffee – Ethiopia just in time for National Coffee Day which is September 29, 2013.  Starbucks stores across the U.S. and Canada will celebrate by offering free samples of Ethiopia. Also, customers who purchase a 1-lb. bag of Ethiopia that day will receive a free Ethiopian-inspired commemorative ceramic cup.

Starbucks Ethiopia Lifestyle

The new Ethiopia flavor was created by roasting some of the finest quality coffees from various regions of Ethiopia. This unique, fully-washed medium roast coffee balances herbal flavor notes with peppery spicy, sweet citrus, and dark cocoa to create a wonderful tasting coffee.

The Birthplace of Coffee

On the ancient slopes flanking Africa’s Great Rift Valley, coffee trees first emerged from this rich, volcanic soil in 800 AD. This is where the first arabica coffee was grown. More than 1,200 years later, some of the world’s most extraordinary coffees still call Ethiopia home. In addition to boasting incredibly unique coffees from its various growing regions, Ethiopia holds its own rich coffee-drinking traditions. Honoring Ethiopia While connecting over coffee is essential to the Starbucks Experience, Ethiopians have been coming together over coffee for centuries. Coffee is an experience in Ethiopia that is shared with family and friends through daily coffee ceremonies. Coffee drinking is cherished as a special and important time to gather and can last up to several hours. The traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony is a ritual that involves several distinct stages, including pan-roasting the green coffee at home and grinding the roasted beans using a mortar and pestle. The roasted and ground coffee is then prepared in a Jebena, a heavy spherical-shaped

Starbucks Brewing Tips

At Starbucks, we recommend keeping the four fundamentals of brewing a great cup of coffee in mind: freshness, proportion, water and grind. Always use fresh coffee. If it’s open, use it within a week, and never freeze coffee. From a proportion standpoint, we recommend 2 tablespoons of coffee for six ounces of water. Use filtered water heated to just off boiling. If possible, grind coffee fresh and make sure it is the right consistency for your brewing method.

Starbucks Tasting Methods

1.        Smell:  Always smell a coffee before you taste it. Your tongue distinguishes only four tastes: salty, sweet, bitter and sour – but your nose can detect thousands of smells. Cup your hand over the coffee, hold the cup close to your nose and inhale.

2.       Slurp:  When tasting a coffee, it’s important to slurp it. Slurping sprays the coffee across your entire palate and lets subtle flavors and aromas reach your nose.

3.        Locate:  Think about where you are experiencing flavors on your tongue. Is it on the tip and sides? What is the mouthfeel and weight of the coffee on your tongue?

4.       Describe:  Now that you’ve smelled and tasted the coffee, think about how you would describe the experience. Describe the aroma, acidity, body and flavor. What food flavors or other experiences can you compare this sensation to?

Mexican Potato Nachos #CountryCrockCasserole Club

This year my goal has been to spend more time in the kitchen. I’ve never been a big fan of cooking but then the marriage and kids came along and I guess I started feeling a little more domestic. It’s hard to find time to cook though with work, getting the kids to school and other obligations so I try to find quicker meals that don’t take too much time or sometimes I will spend a day cooking so I can freeze those for dinners later that week.

Since I was blessed with the opportunity to be part of the Country Crock Casserole Club I have made a few different dishes I probably wouldn’t normally make, but it’s been great being able to try new things. The kids love it because I’ve been having them help me with some of the new recipes we try.

For our Country Crock Casserole Club (Post 2) we were sent a selection of Mexican ingredients and our inspiration recipe was Mexican Beef and Corn Casserole. Thinking of Mexican dishes I really thought it should include something with rice.. however I didn’t have any rice on hand and I ended up forgetting to pick it up at the store.. what we did have though was potatoes, which is how we came up with a very yummy dish — Mexican Potato Nachos.

This is a fun change up from your traditional nachos so for those of you willing to try it out.. here is the recipe.

  • 1 package of frozen potato crowns (you can also use tater tots or potato wedges)
  • 1/2 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 can reduced sodium black beans, drained
  • 1 can Mexicorn, drained
  • 1 packet of your favorite taco seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons of Country Crock butter
  • 1 tablespoon water

1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees (if you’re using frozen potatoes, use the degree setting on those instructions)

2. Cook the potato crowns as directed on the package.

2. While the potatoes are cooking… cook your meat  in a large skillet and cook until done, you will want to crumble the meat as it cooks.  Stir in the Mexicorn, black beans, butter, taco seasoning and water.

2. Add the meat mixture to your potato crowns and top with your favorite toppings.. We did shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa, and some shredded lettuce.
