BABY SIGNS is based on American Sign Language and will help encourage the use of non-verbal gestures to communicate. Research has proven that babies who are taught to use signs to express their basic ideas before they can say words are happier because they can communicate with others. Scholastic.com
Baby Signs has a retail value of $25.99, but can be purchased online for as little as $13.59 at Amazon.com
Recommended age - infant to preschool
Includes a mini poster with common baby signs.
.

What an adorable book! My daughter who is 2-years old, while a bit past the signing stage, adored Baby Signs. She enjoyed the 3-D illustrations and the fact that she can be hands-on by pulling the flaps to make the “babies” in the book act out the actual sign. Each sign allows the child to interact (by pulling the tabs) and shows the realistic movement, making it easy to learn and encourages your child to mimic the signs.
If you are considering having your children sign, I can tell you that this would be a great book to start with. Just after looking over the book two times with my daughter, she was already picking up the signs without me even showing her. We’ve seen other signing books in the past, but since they never actually showed the movement, I’m guessing that she didn’t understand what they were asking her to do. Which of course is my fault because I never took the time to explain. While I can’t give my opinion on signing as a whole, I will definitely tell you that this is a book that any child would enjoy.

“I’m hungry, I want more.” I don’t think my daughter is old enough to learn sign language just yet, but I want to get a jump on it, to figure out what she wants. My nieces learned sign language when they were little, and it was helpful.

The first sign I want to teach my baby is “help” – then she can sign and point and we’ll know what’s concerning her. Even if she can’t sign “diaper change” she can sign “help” and point to her stinky butt!

I would like to know the sign for “potty”. We have started potty training my son and I think there is times when he tries to tell us he has to go but he just doesn’t talk all that well yet.
I do teach my kids signs and my 9 month old just learned the signs for ‘more’ and ‘thank you.’ It makes life so much easier! I can’t wait for her to learn the signs for ‘eat’ and ‘please!’
Our granddaughter who is 8 weeks old appears to already want to be a big talker like her mommy. I’m sure they will want her to learn the sign, quiet! Thanks for the contest. I hope I win it for her.
When I do have my child in 8 weeks, I hope that he will end up learning the sign for “Mommy”. From babysitting my lil brothers and sisters, I know that word gets on my step-mother’s nerves. Can’t get a moment of peace without that word being thrown around!

I wish he knew the sign for juice. He knows drink but gets frustrated when it’s milk and not juice.
I wish my daugher would sign please. It would be so sweet!
i wish he will learn the sign for hungry – that would be most helpful
I wish he knew the sign for hungry so I knew when he was! Thanks!

I wish my little one could learn the sign of milk.
The sign would be more so I would know whether she wants more.
It’s definitely got to be hungry.
“Eat” and “more” are the only two signs that have stuck with my son thusfar. I’d love for him to learn the sign for when he’s hot–it’s so hard when he gets crabby!
I wish he knew the sign for when he had to go potty. That would have come in handy. Thanks for the great giveaway.
I wish my son knew the sign for either drink or cup. He knows eat but yells and points to his drink when he wants it.
I wish my kids knew the sign for “sorry”
My kids are older, but I wish they would sign instead of whine. Maybe they could learn “my sibling annoyed me” and then I could not have to hear about it all the time

I wish that my son would’ve signed when he was sleepy.
I wish my daughter knew the sign for want. All she says is “Want” instead of I want it.
I think the sign for “mine” would be a great help at our house.
I’d like my little one to learn “potty”.

I’ve just started signing with my little guy on a recommendation from his speech therapist. He LOVES being able to communicate with me! We’re learning new signs every day, but I think right now I really wish I knew the sign for “squirrel” or “camera” since he tries to ask for both of those!

I wish Alex would learn the sign for potty. He is not very verbal, but knows the signs for more and eat. I just wish he would show my a sign that he’s ready so I can catch him.
I wish my daughter knew the sign for eat, so she could tell me instead of getting fussy and making me guess what she wants.
I wish my son knew the sign for hungary so he could just tell me he was hungary instead of getting fussy.
“Hurt” is a useful sign that my son never mastered. It would be so much easier to understand a child who could tell you what hurts!
Thankfully my little one has EAT down to an art form. She bangs her little fists against her mouth like she is trying to stuff something in there and makes frantic grunting noises.
I wish she would learn a sign for GAS or tummy pain. It would save us a lot of time if we knew her fussy behavior is due to a trapped bubble or a too full belly.
I wish they knew the sign for “more.”

I would have loved for my daughter to know the sign for love and please. My niece learned to sign before she could talk and it helped a lot. She still remembers some of the signs now that she can talk too. She doesn’t use them but she remembers them if you remind her.
