Three Ways to Plan a Green Wedding

April 2, 2009

greenweddingWhen you are planning your wedding you want the tone of the event to reflect your personality and the personality of your intended. If you are an ecologically friendly person and you want that to reflect in the theme of the event there are many green wedding ideas you can incorporate into your big day. From the invitations to the attire the following green wedding tips will help you with your planning.

Green Invitations

When it comes to planning an ecologically friendly event you need to start from the beginning. Your invitations can be extremely wasteful if you don’t make a few simple changes to the standard wedding invite. First and foremost, your wedding invitations should be made from an environmentally friendly paper choice. That means using recycled paper or an alternative paper choice such as paper made from hemp or bamboo. In addition to that, reduce the amount of waste and paper used by having a reply postcard with no envelop or no reply card and just a R.S.V.P..

Green Wedding Attire

One of the primary expenses people encounter when they are planning their wedding is the cost of their attire. There are many ways to reduce the amount of money you spend on your wedding attire and make green attire choices. You can buy a dress or suit made from an organic fabric such as silk, hemp or linen. Or, you can get your wedding attire from a vintage store or consignment shop.

Green Catering Choices

The flow of a wedding reception is often centered around the food that is served. There are many green wedding ideas centered around food and catering. In order for your catering to be considered green you need to find a caterer that serves organic, or vegetarian entrees. You should also ask them if they source their ingredients locally when possible. Additionally, a green caterer should use real flatware and reusable napkins. If they use disposable flatware, the disposable flatware should be biodegradable or made from recycled materials.
