When you think of maple syrup what is the first thing that comes to mind? The first thing I think of is pancakes, one of my favorite foods! Recently my family was given the chance to try some maple syrup from Coombs Family Farms. I have never tasted maple syrup before. I honestly thought maple and pancake syrup were the same thing. Well, I was wrong! Maple syrup is pure maple while pancake syrup is full of preservatives, thickeners, corn syrup and maple flavoring.
When our bottle of maple syrup arrived in the mail, I made a quick batch of pancakes. When I poured the syrup onto my pancakes I noticed it was thinner than pancake syrup. That caught me a little off guard but then I tasted it. The flavor was different. It wasn’t as sweet as pancake syrup but it was more flavorful. I didn’t just taste sugar. I never thought I would say less sugar tastes ok.
From the Coombs Family Farms website I learned that you can use maple syrup for more than just pancakes. They have all different types of recipes from salmon to carrots. Did you know you can put maple syrup on ice cream? I never would have guessed it. The kids and I did try a little in our oatmeal and it tasted really good! Kayla doesn’t like just plain oatmeal anymore.
